ACM Symposium on Applied Computing

The ACM Symposium on Applied Computing (SAC) has gathered scientists from different areas of computing over the past twenty-nine years. The forum represents an opportunity to interact with different communities sharing an interest in applied computing. SAC 2027 is sponsored by SIGAPP and will be held in Gwangju, South Korea, April 5 - 9, 2027.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Semantic Technology (ST) track invites original research and practical contributions on semantic technologies and their applications, especially work that combines semantic methods with artificial intelligence. The scope includes Semantic technologies, ontology and knowledge-graph engineering, semantic data management and interoperability, and AI-driven approaches for natural language understanding and knowledge discovery.

The track welcomes papers that address theoretical foundations, technical methods, systems, and applied case studies. Topics of interest include: 1) learning, constructing, and maintaining ontologies and knowledge bases; 2) using ontologies, knowledge graphs, and AI to support data management, integration, and interoperability; 3) architectures and platforms for deploying semantic technology in specific application domains; and 4) semantic approaches to search, information retrieval, question answering, and recommendation.

We especially encourage submissions that apply semantic technologies to real-world domains, including e-learning, e-business, social networks, geographic information systems, medical informatics, bioinformatics, and legal informatics.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURES

Authors are invited to submit original papers via Easychair submission system as a PDF file. Since the track papers will be published by ACM proceedings, authors must submit manuscripts using the ACM format. See ACM SAC Author Kit for template files and details.

  • Note: Full papers are limited to 8 pages with the option for up to 2 additional pages and Posters are limited to 2 pages with the option for up to 1 additional page.
  • To facilitate double-blind review, the names and addresses of the author(s) must not appear anywhere in the body of the manuscript. References to the authors’ own work should be written in the third person. On the first page, only the paper title should appear at the top; no author-identifying information should be included.
  • A paper cannot be submitted to more than one track.
  • All paper submissions MUST BE "Original, unpublished work."
  • SAC No-Show Policy
      Paper registration is mandatory to include papers and posters in the conference proceedings. An author or a proxy attending SAC MUST present the paper. This requirement applies to all accepted papers, posters, and invited SRC submissions for inclusion in the ACM digital library. In case of personal circumstances preventing physical attendance, online presentation is allowed, ensuring the paper's inclusion in the ACM digital library. Note that no registration refund will be issued to no-show authors.
  • Important update on ACMs new open access publishing model for ACM Conferences!
      Starting January 1, 2026, ACM will fully transition to Open Access. All ACM publications, including those from ACM-sponsored conferences, will be 100% Open Access. Authors will have two primary options for publishing Open Access articles with ACM: the ACM Open institutional model or by paying Article Processing Charges (APCs). With over 1,800 institutions already part of ACM Open, the majority of ACM-sponsored conference papers will not require APCs from authors or conferences (currently, around 70-75%).
      Authors from institutions not participating in ACM Open will need to pay an APC to publish their papers, unless they qualify for a financial or discretionary waiver. To find out whether an APC applies to your article, please consult the list of participating institutions in ACM Open and review the APC Waivers and Discounts Policy. Keep in mind that waivers are rare and are granted based on specific criteria set by ACM.

STUDENT RESEARCH COMPETITION

As before, SAC 2027 organises a Student Research Competition (SRC) Program to provide graduate students the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with researchers and practitioners in their areas of interest.
